Style Tutor is a fashion blog for real people with real lives and real budgets. As avid readers of fashion blogs and magazines we came to realize there is still a large gap between high fashion and real life. Since we are both teachers, we understand firsthand the challenge of staying fashion-forward on a limited budget. And over the years we think we’ve become pretty good at it. That’s why we decided to join forces to help bring affordable fashion advice to people like us.
Style Tutor combines our two loves: fashion and education. Our goal is to offer fashion tips and services that will help women understand how to better stock their closets to match their lifestyles while still looking chic. We will highlight some of our favorite finds, great deals and must-have items, as well as offer advice and personalized shopping services to anyone looking to freshen up their wardrobes without breaking the bank.
We think it’s absolutely possible to look like a million bucks on less than $100, and we hope our readers will come to realize that being stylish is easy, affordable and fun.

What is your best money-saving fashion tip?
When each month’s fashion magazines arrive in my mailbox I obsessively peruse the pages and dog ear all the fashions I love, so that by the time I begin to plan any given season’s wardrobe I have a really good grasp on what’s on trend. I then watch, again obsessively, for items I want to add to my wardrobe to go on sale. All major retailers and designers have email distribution lists and/or a Twitter account that are easy to sign up for or follow, which is a great way to stay on top of what’s happening with a company and when sales or special discounts are going on. I NEVER pay full price; one, because I don’t have a big budget and two, because I love a good bargain!
Who is Kristy?
High school journalism adviser and university adjunct faculty associate, wife, amateur blogger, media addict, runner, novice yogi and lifelong obsessive shopper. Oh, and proud owner of the most adorable German Shorthaired Pointer in the world.
Who are your style inspirations?
It’s so overdone and unoriginal, but it’s true: Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly are the most gorgeously stylish women of all time. Lately I’ve also been taking cues from the working women of the ‘80s depicted in the movies, especially Teri Garr. She knew how to rock a ribbon neck tie. And also like to check out what modern-day fashionistas like Rachel Bilson, Kate Moss, Carey Mulligan and Zooey Deschanel are doing.
What three words would you use to describe your own style?
Simple, classic, eclectic.
What three words would you use to describe Jennifer’s style?
Feminine, demure-but-daring (pretending that’s one word), colorful.
What is your best money-saving fashion tip?
Sign up for your favorite stores’/brands’ email lists, follow them on Twitter and/or like them on Facebook, as they will often send coupons or offer first-looks at sales. And only pay full price for something you absolutely have to have. Everything else will be on sale in a week.
