I had the pleasure of attending the world premiere of Queens of Country at the Phoenix Film Festival last night. The film, which stars comedy geniuses Lizzy Caplan, Ron Livingston, Joe Lo Truglio and Matt Walsh, is a quirky, charming, gender-bending, mind-twisting comedy filled with country music, line dancing and Arizona desert landscape. And fashion. Over-the-top, candy-coated, night-at-the-Grand-Ole-Opry fashion.
The movie was co-written and co-directed by Ryan Page, the husband of my dear friend since 7th grade, Katy. Here we are smiling for the camera in the festival’s Party Pavilion.
Katy is wearing a bright green dress from Anthropologie, perfect for a lovely spring evening. I love the hemline that’s a little shorter in front than in back — a cool and flirty touch. I am getting more mileage of two key pieces I purchased in recent months: my red AG Stevie Ankle Jeans and my beloved Emerson Fry (formerly Emerson Made) tuxedo jacket, which I brought at the last minute because I knew that, even though it was 90 degrees when we left the house yesterday, I would be freezing in the theater. Good call. My outfit was rounded out with a new (and inexpensive) footwear acquisition: leopard print flats from BC Footwear.
The movie will be on the the film festival circuit over the next few weeks, and then will have a theatrical release. You need to look out for it…it’s a weird, funny, sweet and thoroughly entertaining movie.
