Friday-Finds-3-1-13-for-web

There’s really no rhyme or reason to this week’s finds other than a collection of little odds and ends that bring a smile to my face and would, of course, be lovely additions to my wardrobe.  Just between you and me, I’ve already purchased this dress and this top!  They are both wallet friendly and, most importantly, supremely comfortable, flattering, and stylish.  (Stay tuned for future outfit posts!)

Color of the Month: Mad for Plaid

No Comments 17 December 2012

Plaid is a classic print that transcends the passing of time and trends; depending on the color combinations it can range from preppy chic to cool mod to a touch punk.  One of my favorite things about plaid is that it coolly straddles the line between the masculine and feminine (like that great bow tie from local company, Dapper + Dash), which means no matter the garment it can be easily dressed up or down.

Friday Finds: A Little Sparkle and Shine

1 Comment 26 October 2012

Sequins get kind of a bad wrap.  My guess is most women, while fond of sequins, find them a tricky or frivolous purchase because they appear exclusive to evening or special occasions.  So while you might admire them from afar, you don’t really purchase sparkly garments all that often because they seem impractical.  I totally get it; sequins can quickly take one from a sophisticated and fun girl to a Vegas showgirl.

The trick, then, lies in being thoughtful about the type of sequined garment one purchases and the amount of sequins one wears, especially during the day.  To remain sophisticated and fun, a quirky little tank under a solid colored blazer or a sequined blazer paired with a simple tee can be toned down with a great pair of skinny jeans and an ankle boot while a fun clutch or sequined boot can add just the right touch of sparkle to an everyday outfit.  I even think the sequin dress could be worn during the day; I would just throw a crisply tailored blazer over the top to add a little structure and to help tone down the sheen.  Another great thing about sequins during the day is that you don’t have to really fret about which accessories to pair with your look; just let the sequins do the work!
